The United States is in the midst of a measles outbreak with the most cases reported in 25 years. Simultaneously vaccination rates for measles have dropped steadily. In order to accomplish herd immunity for this serious infection, 96% of a population should have measles immunity through vaccination. This lecture will cover the epidemiology of Measles in US and Texas, clinical characteristics of the Illness, lab diagnosis, prevention through Vaccination, and the impact of Vaccine Hesitancy on incidence of vaccine preventable infections.
